Varicose veins are not an inevitable sign of aging
Varicose veins – those swollen, raised and often twisted bulging veins along the back or inside of the leg afflict about half of all women and about up to 15 per cent of men. In addition to being unsightly, varicose veins can cause painful side effects including throbbing, cramping, itching and generalized pain. Over time, the condition can worsen and cause serious side effects including leg swelling, skin ulcers and blood clots to the lungs.

Fight back with EVLT: a highly effective alternative to painful surgical stripping
The answer for many lies in EndoVenous Laser Therapy, or EVLT, an innovative new technology that makes it possible for doctors to eliminate varicose veins and get patients back on their feet without surgery.
EVLT is a quick, minimally invasive laser process that leaves no scar, has minimal postoperative pain, a quick recovery period and provides almost immediate relief from symptoms. It is performed in our office, under local anesthesia, and works by using an ultrasound led probe to effectively damage and shrink the walls of the vein so that blood can no longer flow through it.
Kelowna EndoVenous Laser: Leading-Edge EVLT & laser Vein Clinic
Patients respond favourably to the one-hour EVLT treatment and are able to walk just 10 minutes after it is complete. We recommend strenuous activity be avoided for three or four months, however patients can resume regular activities just one day after the procedure is complete.
Here's what to expect during a procedure that is so efficient it can be scheduled over your lunch break:
- Our female doctors will map your vein using ultrasound.
- Local anesthetic will be applied.
- A thin laser fiber will be inserted through a tiny entry point near the knee.
- Laser energy will be delivered to seal the faulty vein.
- Normal activity resumes after a brief 10 minute rest.

It’s really as easy as that.
